The US Department of Justice charged four North Korean nationals with fraud, cryptocurrency theft, and money laundering, involving about $1 million stolen from two crypto firms in Atlanta and Serbia. Using fake IDs and remote work, the accused altered smart contract code and used crypto mixers to conceal transactions. This criminal scheme helps fund banned North Korean programs, warns US officials.
Paxos introduced USDG, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, for European users via its Finnish branch. Supported by Robinhood, Kraken, and others, USDG complies with strict EU MiCA regulations and is already trading on multiple blockchains. The stablecoin aims to compete with USDC and meet growing demand for regulated crypto assets in Europe.
Robinhood Europe secured a broker license from Lithuania’s central bank, launching its first crypto center in the EU. The platform offers commission-free trading of over 20 digital assets, staking programs, and plans tokenized stocks on Arbitrum blockchain. This expands Robinhood’s European presence after acquiring Bitstamp.
Circle applied to establish a national trust bank in the US to better manage USDC reserves and meet evolving regulatory standards. The trust bank will hold assets securely, without offering loans or accepting deposits, marking a key step for Circle’s compliance and infrastructure development in the stablecoin sector.
A New York resident faces up to 20 years imprisonment for a $1.2 million Bitcoin fraud involving fake checks and hacked corporate emails. The FBI uncovered a scheme using multiple bank accounts to convert stolen funds into Bitcoin. Authorities highlight growing crypto-related fraud risks worldwide.
